LG will offer Android upgrades for some devices up to Android 13

Earlier this month, LG officially announced that it is closing down its mobile division and will no longer produce smartphones. However, some pre-existing devices will continue to get updates, seemingly for the next couple of years.

LG's South Korean team has said that up to three years of updates will be provided to selected devices. Some devices will be supported all the way up to Android 13, while others will have support cut after their respective Android 11 or Android 12 updates.

“All premium LG smartphones currently in use will receive up to three iterations of Android operating system updates from the year of purchase”, the official statement reads. As reported by Gizmochina, this should mean that the following devices will get updates:

Android 13:

  • LG Velvet
  • LG Velvet LTE
  • LG Wing

Android 12:

  • LG Wing
  • LG Velvet
  • LG Velvet LTE
  • LG V50S
  • LG V50
  • LG G8
  • LG Q31
  • LG Q52
  • LG Q92

Android 11:

  • LG Wing
  • LG Velvet
  • LG Velvet LTE
  • LG V50S
  • LG V50
  • LG G8
  • LG G8X
  • LG G8S
  • LG K52
  • LG K42
  • LG Q31
  • LG Q51
  • LG Q52
  • LG Q61
  • LG Q70
  • LG Q92
  • LG Q9 One

The exact release dates for these Android updates is still unknown. Many LG devices are still awaiting last year's Android 11 update and Android 12 is still under development at Google for release later this year.

KitGuru Says: It looks like there will still be a small mobile team at LG for the next few years to work on these updates.
