It looks like HTC will have a new standalone, wireless VR headset launching soon. Recently, an awards website leaked the HTC Vive Air, an unannounced VR headset.
The iF World Design Guide awards posted images for the HTC Vive Air this week ahead of an official announcement from HTC. As we can see from the images, the Vive Air appears to be a lightweight headset with four tracking cameras and a ‘halo' head mounting design for comfort.
The awards listing also comes with a description for the headset, which reads: “VIVE Air VR headset is specially designed for virtual fitness, optimized for high intensity with long use. Inspired by sports shoes, the new headset introduces knitted materials to VR to provide unprecedented comfort and fit. The breathable and quick-drying fabrics improve ventilation in the heated exercise. The innovative lightweight structure allows users to forget the presence of the head-mounted display to focus on virtual content. The quick-release design allows the removal of ergonomic soft components for washing.”
So to sum up, its a VR headset geared towards fitness rather than games. There is still more to be revealed though, as HTC is going to have to highlight software that makes this headset worth buying for this particular use case. All of those announcements will likely come next month during ViveCon 2021, which takes place on the 11th and 12th of May.
