Sonic Colours Ultimate officially announced

Recently we reported that Sonic Colours was seemingly going to be getting a remaster thanks to a number of leaks. Now, during the Sonic 30th anniversary stream, SEGA officially announced that Sonic Colours would be getting a remaster, bringing the Wii game to modern platforms – except for Steam.

Sonic Colours Ultimate is a remaster of the 2010 Wii game. At launch, the game was deemed one of the blue blur’s better outings in recent times (though in subsequent years some of its flaws have become more apparent).

Still, the game has many fans, and so the fact that it was only ever released on the Wii was disappointing, especially due to the fact that the hardware was outdated even at the time – limiting its potential. Sonic Colours Ultimate is therefore an exciting prospect, especially as it is more than a simple port.

Coming to PS4, Xbox One/Series, Switch, and the Epic Games Store on the 7th of September, Sonic Colours Ultimate comes with increased resolutions and framerates; seemingly new effects; the Jade Ghost Wisp from Team Sonic Racing; a new ‘Rival Rush’ mode; and possibly Tails as a playable character.

Sonic Colours Ultimate will cost $40, which is a more reasonable price for a remaster, especially compared to Nintendo – who will soon be rereleasing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword for full price. Of course, the Zelda series has had a much more consistent track record when compared to Sonic. Regardless, bringing older games to new platforms is always welcome, and so it’s good to see Sonic Colours make the jump.
