Nintendo is no stranger to releasing games with user generated content. Super Mario Maker 1 and 2, as well The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening all allow for players to make their own game levels. Nintendo has now taken it to the next step with Game Builder Garage.
In a surprise announcement, Nintendo has revealed Game builder Garage, saying “Have you ever dreamed of building your own video games? The Game Builder Garage software is a great place to start! Anyone can learn the basics of game design and visual programming with step-by-step lessons created by the minds at Nintendo.”
Unlike Super Mario Maker, Game builder Garage offers all different types of gameplay styles and genres, allowing you to make 2D games, 3D games, top down titles, or something in between.
How robust the tools are is currently unknown, but Nintendo promises that “Game Builder Garage helps you understand the basics of visual programming in a fun, memorable way. With your new power-up, you just might look at the video games and apps you enjoy every day in a different way. Continue learning to power yourself up even further!”
Switch owners who find this prospect exciting luckily won't have to wait long, as Game Builder Garage will launch on the 11th of June, and will cost a relatively modest $29.99. With titles such as Mario Maker and Dreams showcasing just how creative players can be, it will be exciting to see what fans do with Game Builder Garage.
