Astro Bot gets second major free update

Astro Bot delighted many when the PlayStation-published 3D platformer launched back in September to a wave of critical and commercial success. Since then, Team Asobi have promised and delivered free post-launch content in the form of speedrunning levels. Now, in celebration of the Christmas season, a ‘Winter Wonder’ update is dropping later today.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet – the studio director at Team Asobi – thanked fans for their support of the game, while adding:

“As our way of saying thank you, it is my pleasure to announce that a whole new piece of free additional content is coming to Astro Bot. Indeed, the little robotic elves of Team Asobi have been very busy preparing a whole new level called Winter Wonder, which will be coming live on Thursday, December 12 at 6:00 pm PT [13th of December at 2AM UK Time].”

As mentioned, the first major update introduced a bunch of speedrunning levels, which were released on a weekly basis between the months of October and November.

Astro Bot Update

Unlike the previous update, Winter Wonder will release all at once and brings with it a more traditional additional Astro Bot level – themed of course around the holiday seasons.

According to Doucet, “You will need to have completed the game for this special update to appear. Since we want it to remain a little surprise, we will not say too much, but you should expect a fun-filled level with shiny presents, a good dose of jingle bells, and brand-new special bots to add to your crew!”

While the speedrun levels were a welcome addition, it is nice to see more traditional levels also being added post-launch for free. Hopefully Astro Bot sees continued support for many months to come.
