With Call of Duty Black Ops 6 mere days away from launch, some of the focus has now shifted to next year’s as-of-yet-unannounced title. Corroborating leaks from late last year, new details on COD's 2025 entry have now been revealed.
As reported by FumoLeaks and corroborated by industry leaker Tom Henderson via Insider-Gaming, next year’s Call of Duty entry is set to be a reimagining of the 2012 classic Black Ops II.
According to the leaks, the game will be set in 2035 and will follow the son of BOI’s protagonist Alex Mason in a campaign focused on espionage and informational warfare.
Beyond this, the multiplayer is said to include a number of gameplay changes / enhancements, including the return of Omnimovement from Black Ops 6, alongside some level of wall jumping.
In terms of the Zombies mode, COD 2025 is said to focus on classic round-based gameplay – though there will reportedly also be some kind of Black Ops 2-styled ‘big’ map (as was seen with the likes of Tranzit back in the day).
Despite its size, this map will not be an Outbreak / Modern Warfare III Zombies type of experience, instead being closer to the typical zombies mode – albeit set in a much larger map.
Given the nature of the COD development cycle, many of these leaked features could be changed or entirely removed by the time it is officially announced some time next year.
Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see what the team have planned for this reimagining of one of Call of Duty’s most popular entries of all time.
