PlayStation officially announces black and red DualSense controllers

Ever since the PS5 was first revealed, some fans expressed their dislike for the black and white colour scheme adopted by the next-generation console. The DualSense also shared this look. Now, 6 months after its launch, Sony is finally releasing new DualSense colours.

Making the announcement on its blog, PlayStation officially revealed “two new colors that will be joining the DualSense controller lineup starting next month: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red.”

According to Sony, “Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky, and Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos.”

As mentioned, both controllers will be made available to purchase starting next month. The PS5’s launch colours proved to be divisive, and so introducing new colours should saitate fans who prefer their technology to blend into the background.

With the announcement of new DualSense controllers, it begs the question as to when Sony will likewise reveal new colours of the system itself. Unlike previous consoles, the PS5’s side plates are completely removable, meaning that if they wished, PlayStation could sell different coloured side panels without requiring fans to purchase a whole new console. Hopefully first-party PS5 side plates aren't too far off.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the controllers? Will you pick either of them up? What do you think of the original’s black and white colour scheme? Let us know down below.
