Ratchet & Clank will offer a ray-traced 60fps mode

When Spider-Man Miles Morales first launched on PS5, it came with two graphics modes: Performance and Quality. In a later update, Insomniac Games added a third option: performance RT, offering the best of both worlds. It has now been confirmed that the upcoming Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will likewise come with three different graphics modes, satisfying all types of players.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Insomniac Games said “Players who update #RatchetPS5 on launch day gain access to our Performance & Performance RT Modes.”

This means that with the day-one patch installed players will be able to pick between three different modes. The quality mode will likely offer a 4K image with ray-tracing enabled, but at 30fps. The performance mode meanwhile swaps ray-tracing for frame rates, offering a smooth 60fps experience at high resolution, but without ray-tracing effects. Lastly, if this Performance RT mode is similar to that of Miles Morales’ then resolution will see a downgrade (possibly to 1080p), but while maintaining both 60fps and ray-tracing.

One of the best conveniences brought by this latest generation of consoles is the flexibility afforded to developers to offer multiple graphics modes, letting players who prefer 60fps play in that way, while those who wish for a pretty image at all costs can also do so. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launches on the 11th of June.
