Rockstar has opened its own record label

When it comes to memorable soundtracks, Rockstar Games is one developer whose music comes to mind. The GTA and Read Dead Redemption studio has been celebrated in the past for its music, both original and licensed. Now the studio has announced that it is opening its own record label “CircoLoco Records,” the first EP of which will be out this June.

Making the announcement on its website, Rockstar Games said “Music has always been a fundamental part of Rockstar Games — from the championing of underground artists and scenes across our titles, to the meticulously curated radio stations of the Grand Theft Auto series and the introduction of fully-realized digital nightclubs in Grand Theft Auto Online with the After Hours update, as well as expanding the possibilities for in-game social spaces and music discovery with the release of The Cayo Perico Heist.”

Explaining the next step in this journey, they revealed that “Now, we’re further fusing the physical and digital worlds of entertainment by teaming with CircoLoco — creators of some of the world’s biggest and most influential real world parties and one of the most recognized brands in modern dance music — to create a brand-new record label, CircoLoco Records.”

The first project from the label, a compilation album titled ‘Monday dreamin’ is currently in development, with an EP set to release next month – the first track of which can be listened to right now.

Creating their own record label is an interesting move for Rockstar Games. With how prevalent music is within their titles, it will be interesting to see whether future games from the studio will include music from the label.
