Tesla’s new infotainment system is said to be as powerful as a PlayStation 5

This week, Tesla launched its new Model S Plaid electric car, complete with a new infotainment system, demonstrated by Elon Musk. According to Musk, this new gaming-capable system can deliver performance on par with a PlayStation 5.

The infotainment system features a 17-inch display with a 2200×1300 resolution. Under the hood, you'll find an AMD Navi 23 GPU, which should feature 32 CUs (2048 Stream Processors) and 8GB of GDDR6 memory. The Infotainment system still has some more improvements coming, including additional displays, new UI elements and better audio.

Unfortunately, the exact CPU being used here was not disclosed, but we do know that it is an AMD Ryzen processor. In all, the Infotainment System packs 10 TFLOPS of performance, matching the PlayStation 5 console. Speaking on performance expectations, Musk said:

“There’s never been a car that has state of the art computing technology, state of the art infotainment where this is literally at the level of a PlayStation 5. This is actual PlayStation 5-level performance, yes it can run Cyberpunk. It’s high frame rate, it will do 60fps with state of the art games.”

To demonstrate this in action, Tesla demoed Cyberpunk 2077 running on the system, although performance metrics and graphical settings were not shown. If you want a next-gen game console on wheels, then the Tesla Model S Plaid is going for $122,990.

KitGuru says: Nobody should be buying a car specifically for its Infotainment System, but it sure is a nice bonus to have. What do you all think of the new Tesla Model S Plaid?
