God of War Ragnarok has been delayed to 2022

Last year, Sony showed off a number of upcoming games. One of the most exciting was the much anticipated sequel to 2018’s God of War. Tentatively named God of War: Ragnarok, the game was teased with little more than a logo and a release year: 2021. 6 months into 2021 and with no release date insight, it has now been confirmed that the game has been delayed to 2022.

Making the announcement on Twitter, Sony Santa Monica said “Since the release of the next God of War teaser last year, we've been humbled by the amount of love our community has shown us. We're incredibly grateful to see so many people excited to experience the next chapter of Kratos and Atreus’ journey. We remain focused on delivering a top-quality game while maintaining the safety and wellbeing of our team, creative partners, and families.”

With that, they made the disappointing, but unsurprising announcement that “we've made the decision to shift our release window to 2022,” concluding by saying “Thank you all for your continued support, we've got some exciting things in the works that we can't wait to show you!”

Aside from the first teaser trailer shown off last year, no information at all has been revealed regarding the sequel to 2018’s God of War – and now we know why. Hopefully Sony Santa Monica uses this extra time to ensure the game is as good as its predecessor.
