Microsoft recently held its Xbox and Bethesda E3 showcase. Opening the event was a much-anticipated trailer for Starfield, the RPG from Bethesda Game Studios, the team behind Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Though not much was shown, the team has confirmed a 2022 release date for the game – launching exactly 11 years after Skyrim.
Microsoft released a teaser trailer for Starfield, showcasing the core aesthetics for the game, though offering little in the way of gameplay. Described as a “next generation role-playing game set amongst the stars,” players will be able to “create any character you want and explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.”
“Harnessing the power of next-gen technology and built on the all-new Creation Engine 2, Starfield takes you on a journey through space as you strive to answer humanity’s greatest mystery”. Despite being announced prior to its acquisition by Microsoft, much speculation has occurred since questioning whether Starfield would be coming to PlayStation, or if it would be exclusive to Xbox.
The console manufacturer has now put this speculation to rest, confirming that Starfield will be launching exclusively for the Xbox Series X|S and PC. Of course, as with all first-party titles, the game will launch day-and-date on Xbox Game Pass.
Finally, the team concluded by revealing the game’s release date: 11.11.22. This will mark exactly 11 years after the launch of Skyrim, which famously released on 11.11.11. However, with the game so far away still, it will be interesting to see whether this release date will shift at a later point.
