Bioware unveils ‘Legacy of the Sith’ expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic

Bioware might not be showing up to EA Play Live this year, but that doesn't mean the studio doesn't have new content coming out this year. The team behind Star Wars: The Old Republic has been busy working on a new expansion, known as ‘Legacy of the Sith'.

This expansion is coming out in Q4 2021 and will include new story content and new gameplay features. Starting off with the story, this expansion will see players chasing down Darth Malgus as he pursues ancient Sith relics across the galaxy. The story will kick off in familiar territory for those who have played Knights of the Old Republic. The expansion starts off on Manaan, a planet almost entirely covered by ocean, invaded by the Sith in search of Kolto, a vital medical resource needed for the on-going war between the Sith and the Republic.

Once you've cleared things up on Manaan, you'll be heading to a new planet, Elom, where a secret Sith Fortress is based. Here, Darth Malgus has found something “critical to the future of the Jedi and the Sith” but that's all the story teasing we have for the time being.

As for gameplay changes, Bioware is working on an overhauled “new player experience”, a new character creation system, new character sheet and inventory menus, a complete PvP system revamp and other improvements. The biggest gameplay change is the addition of ‘Combat Styles', allowing players to mix and match weapons and abilities from other classes without changing their class story. So you could be a Jedi that dabbles in dark side force powers, or a Sith Inquisitor wielding dual lightsabers. The game's level cap has also been increased to 80.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Legacy of the Sith will release in Holiday 2021, so expect it some time between October and the end of December.

KitGuru Says: I recently replayed the Jedi Guardian story line in SWTOR and it looks like I'll be jumping back into the game before the end of this year. What do you all think of the new Old Republic expansion? Will you be jumping back in for new content?
