Synology is about to release the DiskStation Manager 7.0 and update the C2 cloud platform with new services. While DSM 7.0 brings enhanced security, system management capabilities, and improving data collaboration, the C2 cloud service will feature a new password manager, directory as a service, cloud backup, and secure file sharing solutions. Moreover, as a sign of its investment in C2, Synology is planning to open a data centre in the Asia-Pacific region.
With over 8 million devices powered by DSM, this operating system is the world's largest NAS OS. Featuring add-ons such as Synology Drive and Active Backup suite, DSM is at the core of every Synology NAS, bringing storage interoperability, backup and data protection capabilities, and robust synchronization and collaboration solutions.
The new DSM 7.0 will keep the legacy of older versions while packing new hybrid-cloud services. These services are Active Insight, a device monitoring and diagnostics solution, Hybrid Share, to bring C2 storage flexibility and synchronization capabilities to on-premises solutions, and C2 Identity, a hybrid cloud directory as a service for simple cross-site domain management. Additionally, DSM 7.0 will also support up to 1 PB volumes and Secure Sign In, an authentication system that makes two-factor painless to use.
C2 cloud service will also receive new services. There's C2 Password, a password manager that protects your credentials, C2 Transfer, a solution to share sensitive files across a network, and C2 Backup, a tool used to back up local and cloud resources.
Synology is also building a new data centre in Taiwan, allowing the company to provide services to customers in the Asia Pacific region. By choosing Taiwan, customers in this area can benefit from lower latency and an end-user experience similar to Synology on-premises NAS and SAN solutions.
DSM 7.0 will be released on June 29th for Plus, value, and J series products. XS, SA and FS series devices will receive the update in Q4 2021. As for the C2 cloud platform, the new features will roll out starting July 13th.
