EA officially reveals FIFA 22 but PC version won’t include next-gen features

EA has finally announced FIFA 22, detailing some of the game's upcoming features, the “Dual Entitlement” option, and the game versions. One of the highlights is the new HyperMotion technology, which promises to deliver better animations by motion-capturing athletes. However, this and other next-gen features won't be bundled in the PS4, Xbox One, and PC versions.

HyperMotion technology was designed to offer the “most realistic and immersive gameplay experience, in every match and across every mode” by motion capturing 22 football players during a match. EA collected 8.7 million frames and processed them with machine learning to create better animations for passing, shooting, and crossing.

Despite all that it offers, this technology will be exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Stadia, with the PC, PS4, and Xbox One versions lacking it. As per EA, that's because the publisher wants the game to be accessible to a variety of systems.

Older-gen consoles might not be able to handle this new technology, but any mid-range PC made or bought in the last three years should. It's also worth noting that this isn't the first time the PC version of a FIFA game has been inferior to the console versions.

During the announcement, EA also announced that Kylian Mbappé will be the cover player of the game once again. Additionally, EA shared all the game modes, which include “Career”, with the option to create a club, the “Volta” mode with “enhanced gameplay”, FIFA Ultimate Team with Ultimate Team Heroes, and  Pro Clubs. FIFA 22 will feature over 17,000 players, 700 teams, 90 stadiums, and 30 leagues, including UEFA Champions League, the UEFA Europa League, and the UEFA Europa Conference League.

If you pre-order any of the FIFA 22 Editions, you will benefit from:

  • Team of the Week 1 Player item
  • Kylian Mbappé Loan item
  • FUT Ambassador Loan Player Pick
  • Career Mode Homegrown Talent
  • Limited Time Offer – FUT Heroes Player item – Ultimate Edition only
  • Ones to Watch Player item – Ultimate Edition only
  • 4 Days Early Access – Ultimate Edition only
  • Dual Entitlement – free Xbox Series X|S upgrade – Ultimate Edition only
  • 4600 FIFA Points – Ultimate Edition only

FIFA 22 Standard Edition will release on September 27th for PC at $49.99/£49.99, for PS4/Xbox One/Stadia at £59.99, and for PS5/Xbox Series X|S for $69.99/£69.99. As for the Ultimate Edition, it will be available for PC at $69.99/£69.99 and for PS4/PS5/Xbox One/Xbox Series X|S/Stadia for $99.99/£89.99.

KitGuru says: EA may still patch the game to include HyperMotion technology, but seeing how EA has treated previous FIFA games for the PC, it's better to not keep your hopes up. Moreover, the decision of locking the next-gen upgrade to the Ultimate Edition should also cause some controversy.
