Last year, SEGA surprisingly brought Persona 4 Golden over to Steam, breaking the much-loved JRPG from its PS Vita prison. The game saw quick success, selling 500,000 copies in its first month. Just over a year after its initial launch, the game has now been confirmed to have sold over 1 million copies on Steam.
Making the announcement on Twitter, ATLUS said “A Special Broadcast from the Midnight Channel. Persona 4 Golden has sold 1 million copies on Steam! Thank you for your support!” Persona 4 Golden is currently 40% off on Steam.
Persona 4 Golden is an expanded and enhanced version of Persona 4, which originally launched all the way back in 2008. Coming exclusively to PS Vita in 2012, Golden received high praise, becoming widely regarded as one of the system’s best games.
Since then however, the game remained locked to the PS Vita. Following the critical and commercial success of Persona 5, Golden was brought to Steam – a move which appears to have paid off handsomely.
SEGA previously announced its intentions to bring more ports to Steam, and so in the wake of the success of Persona 4 Golden, it will be interesting to see what plans the publisher has for its back catalogue, as well as future titles.
