While both Microsoft and Sony released new controllers for their respective next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X/S controller was an incremental upgrade over the Xbox One gamepad, while the PS5's DualSense controller went with a more ambitious design and feature set. Now, Microsoft is looking to make some bigger improvements to the Xbox gamepad.
During an interview with Kinda Funny, Xbox head, Phil Spencer, touched on Sony's controller and noted that the company is looking at what it can do to introduce similar features: “We’re definitely thinking about different kinds of devices that can bring more games to more places.”
Spencer went on to add: “There’s probably some work that we’ll do on the controller. I think Sony’s done a nice job with their controller and we kind of look at some of that and there are things that we should go do.”
This is not the first time that Microsoft has expressed interest in bringing DualSense controller features over to its own gamepad. Earlier this year, the company conducted a survey asking Xbox players for feedback on features like resistive/adaptive triggers. Unfortunately, there is no timeline on when we might see a new, upgraded Xbox controller.
KitGuru Says: It could be a long while before we see an upgraded Xbox controller hit the market, but it is something that is being worked on. Have any of you used the DualSense controller? What do you think of the new features?
