Sonic and Tails are coming to Super Monkey Ball

Super Monkey Ball offered a fun and unique multiplayer party experience during its heyday in the early 2000s. Over the years, the franchise has been forgotten somewhat. SEGA seems to be looking to revive the franchise with the upcoming Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania, and here to help is SEGA’s biggest mascot: Sonic the Hedgehog.

Making the announcement, it was revealed that “Sonic the Hedgehog and Miles “Tails” Prower are rolling into Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania as playable characters, free and unlockable on all platforms through normal gameplay at launch!”

This ties in with the 30th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, which has seen the blue blur make his way into a number of different games and franchises, including Minecraft, Two Point Hospital, The official Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 video game and Lost Judgement.

Considering the visual design of the Super Monkey Ball franchise, and the speed-focused gameplay, the addition of Sonic and Tails makes sense. In fact, this isn’t the first time the two have crossed over. Back in 2019, Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD was released, and also featured Sonic – though the game itself received a lukewarm reception. Hopefully Sonic the Hedgehog is attaching his name to a better remaster this time.
