New RTS ‘Age of Darkness: Final Stand’ promises over 70,000 enemy units on screen

PlaySide Studios is about to make its PC gaming debut with a new dark fantasy RTS. Age of Darkness: Final Stand is set to enter Steam Early Access later this year, offering a “modern, darker spin on the survival RTS genre”.

In this game, you'll be placed on a procedurally generated map and tasked with claiming territory back from ‘The Veil', a death fog that conceals enemies and drains life from friendly soldiers. You'll reveal more of the map and clear the fog with light, but the true game-selling feature is PlaySide's own technology – SwarmTech.

Using SwarmTech, the game can render over 70,000 enemy units on the screen at once, leading to massive, hectic battles that should outshine a lot of other RTS titles on the market.

At launch, the game will include a highly replayable survival game mode, during which players will construct buildings, gather resources and build and army during the day, and then survive swarms of thousands of enemies at night. While recruiting soldiers for your army, you will be able to pick up unique heroes, which have special abilities to help turn the tide of any battle.

Speaking on the upcoming early access launch, Sean Gabriel, Lead Designer on Age of Darkness, said: “With Age of Darkness: Final Stand we've been able to combine our passion for Action RPGs, Roguelikes, and RTS games into something wholly our own – and we're only just getting started.”

You can currently add Age of Darkness: Final Stand to your wishlist on Steam. Discuss on our Facebook page, HERE.

KitGuru Says: Age of Darkness is shaping up to be a very interesting RTS. I'm especially looking forward to seeing SwarmTech in action.
