Valve set to bring 3rd-party display mod support for the Steam Deck

When Valve first introduced the Steam Deck, one of its focuses was on pointing out just how user-repairable it is. Since then, we have seen a ton of hardware mods released for the system. Even so, Valve is set to make the whole process even easier.

As reported by Brad Lynch, the XR Project Manager at EOZVR, “Valve is starting to add official support for the Steam Deck LCD’s 1920x1200p ‘DeckHD’ mod right into the Gamescope compositor.”

What this means is that theoretically, users will no longer need to source replacement bios in order to get the 3rd-party display running correctly.

That said, it is worth noting that the code seems to specifically reference the DeckHD mod, meaning universal display support is not currently in the works.

Even so, Valve is continuing to make all aspects of the Steam Deck better over time, and their support for 3rd-parties shows this well.
