Ryzen 9 9900X could be 18% faster than Ryzen 9 7900X at same TDP

The first benchmark results for the Ryzen 9000 series are starting to pop up. A new report compares the upcoming and current Ryzen 9 processors in Cinbench R23 (multithread), showing a decent performance bump over the existing Ryzen 9 7900X. 

AMD is set to introduce four new SKUs for the AM5 socket, including the 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X, 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X, 8-core Ryzen 9 9700X, and 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X. Although the pricing for these SKUs is yet to be revealed, they are anticipated to be priced similarly to the Ryzen 7000 series at launch.

According to Wccftech, the upcoming 12-core desktop CPU is no slouch regarding multi-threading performance. The testing was allegedly conducted on top-tier X670E motherboards using the AGESA 1.2.0.0 BIOS optimised for the Ryzen 9000 series.

The new CPU boasts a lower TDP than the current-generation Ryzen 9 7900X while maintaining identical core counts and a boost rate of 5.6GHz. In Cinebench R23 multi-threaded tests, the 7900X scores approximately 29,000 points, whereas the 9900X may reach 33,000 points at stock settings, indicating a 14% performance increase with lower TDP. With Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) enabled, the 9900X reportedly achieves 34,500 points, presenting an 18% improvement over the Zen 4 processor.

KitGuru says: While synthetic benchmarks provide valuable insight, the Ryzen 9000 series must demonstrate strong gaming performance to rival the 7000X3D series. Given that these processors are launching later this month, we should see plenty more performance comparisons in the weeks ahead.
