Saints Row gameplay shown amid controversy over reboot

During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Saints Row was announced, complete with a cinematic trailer. That trailer turned out to be quite divisive amongst fans, leading to some backlash on YouTube and social media. In response, a second gameplay video has now been released.

The cinematic trailer focuses on introducing characters and setting a new tone for the reboot series, which seems to be heading in an even more ‘over the top' direction with this entry. This is something that split fans, but now, we have some gameplay as well, so we can see how the game looks in action.

The video comes in at just over seven minutes long and shows character creation, customisation, home bases, and some combat scenarios, cut up between segments of developers talking about making the game.

The Saints Row reboot is set in Santo Ileso, where players will take on three rival gangs while building up reputation for The Saints. So far, the developers have called this the biggest playground in series history, so expect a big map. There will also be co-op play, lots of weapons to collect, a wide selection of vehicles ranging from cars and bikes to planes, helicopters and hoverboards.

KitGuru Says: There was a behind-closed-doors gameplay demonstration for media earlier this month, which presumably went more in-depth than what we saw in this video today. Hopefully there will be more gameplay to come later this year.
