Next-gen updates for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 still targeting late 2021

Today, CD Projekt Red held its H1 2021 financial earnings call with investors, revealing some key details about the studio's plans over the coming months. Not only do we have confirmation that the team working on Cyberpunk 2077's first expansion has grown, but the studio has also said that the next-gen console patches for both Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 are still on track for this year.

CD Projekt Red announced plans for Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 in 2020. While this new version of Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed in-house, The Witcher 3's next-gen enhancement patch is being handled by Saber Interactive, the same studio that brought the game to the Nintendo Switch.

During the presentation, CD Projekt Red confirmed that both games are targeting a ‘late 2021' release date on next-gen hardware. Unfortunately, they did not get more specific than that, but rumour has it that Cyberpunk 2077's update is planned for December, marking the one year anniversary of the game.

Little is known about the improvements planned for either game, but we do know this upgraded version of The Witcher 3 will also be heading to PC and will feature ray-tracing effects. Cyberpunk 2077 already features ray-tracing on PC, but no announcements have been made for ray-tracing support on Xbox Series X/S or PS5.
