AMD and Nvidia graphics cards pricing slowly increasing once again

From May until late July, there was evidence that graphics card prices were slowly starting to drop closer to MSRP level, giving hope that we may see normalised pricing by the end of the year. Unfortunately, the price trend has started to reverse, with GPU pricing now slowly but steadily increasing.

As reported by 3DCenter, since from May to July, AMD Radeon RX 6000 series prices have had some ups and downs, but Nvidia GPU prices have decreased consistently. However, as of the 29th of August, data shows that prices are on the rise once again.

From August 8th to August 29th, Nvidia GPU prices increased on average by 9% of their MSRP. As for AMD GPUs, their average price increased by 5% of their MSRP. That may not look much, by this is the first time in three months that we've seen prices of both Nvidia and AMD GPUs increasing simultaneously.

Not all GPU series are being affected equally. While the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT and RX 6800 have increased significantly, the Radeon RX 6800 XT price has remained steady, while the Radeon RX 6900 XT average price has decreased by 7% compared to the prices of August 8th. On the Nvidia side, most GPUs have increased, except for the RTX 3080 Ti, which has also maintained steady pricing over the course of the month.

It's impossible to pinpoint the exact reason for the price increase, but it may be linked to the reported reduction of RTX 30 series shipments during September and the price increase of wafers produced by TSMC.
