Flight Simulator update improves Germany, Switzerland, and Austria one year after launch

While Microsoft’s Flight Simulator launched all the way back in August 2020, the team at Asobo studio have continued to improve the game by adding higher resolution maps, hand crafted buildings and more to some of the world’s biggest cities. This is due to the fact that while AI has helped recreate the entire Earth for travelling, it could only do so much – with many notable and funny mistakes as a consequence. The latest update now brings improvements to Germany, Switzerland and Austria.

The Microsoft Flight Simulator World Update VI is now available for players to download bringing significant improvements to Germany, Switzerland and Austria, specifically: “new aerial imagery, high-resolution elevation maps, and 3D cities, including Frankfurt and Wuppertal in Germany, Basel in Switzerland, and Graz and Vienna in Austria.”

Additionally the studio “hand crafted 100 famous locations and several new airports such as Lübeck, Stuttgart, Klagenfurt, and St. Gallen. This update also includes new discovery flights, fresh landing challenges, and bush trips that showcase this beautiful region of our planet.”

While Microsoft Flight Simulator is certainly an impressive game both graphically and in its ambition, the fact that it took over a year for major countries such as Germany to receive an update suggests that perhaps Microsoft and Asobo should have waited to let the game cook a bit longer. With Buckingham Palace being initially turned into a block of flats prior to the England World Update, the game’s premise of being able to explore the entire world continues to remain unfulfilled for most of the Earth. Evenso, there is no denying that mapping the entire planet in a game such as this is an impressive feat, and it would not be surprising to see the game continuing to get updated years from now.
