AMD AM5 platform confirmed to support dual-channel DDR5 memory and PCIe 4.0

We've seen several confidential documents from both Intel and AMD leak recently due to an attack on Gigabyte's servers. Another document has recently become public, confirming that the AMD AM5 platform will support PCIe 4.0 and DDR5 memory. 

As reported by TechPowerUp, schematics for the AMD AM5 socket have also been revealed. Featuring 28x PCIe lanes, the AM5 platform will feature 4x more PCIe lanes than the AM4 platform. As for memory support, it will feature dual-channel DDR5 memory.

From the 28x PCIe 4.0 lanes on the AM5 platform, 16x are dedicated to the PCIe graphics interface, 4x to the CPU-linked M.2 NVMe slot, 4x more to the USB4 controller, and the last 4x lanes for the chipset. The 4x lanes destined to the USB4 controller may be used for another M.2 NVMe slot.

Some minor changes between the AM4 and AM5 platforms can also be seen in the I/O segment, with the latter supporting 20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen2. The diagram also shows display I/O for APUs running on the AM5 platform, which will apparently support DisplayPort 2.0 through the USB4 controller.

KitGuru says: When AMD launched the Ryzen 5000 series supporting PCIe 4.0, Intel was still using PCIe 3.0. Now, it looks like the roles will reverse, with Intel set to jump to PCIe 5.0 with Alder Lake-S, while AMD sticks to PCIe 4.0 for the time being.
