Just as anticipated, last night during the opening panel of QuakeCon, Bethesda announced and released Quake, now in remastered form with enhanced graphics, all previous expansions and even some new content developed by Machine Games.
This is still classic Quake, so while the game has been updated for modern platforms and includes enhanced models, dynamic lighting, better anti-aliasing and other modern graphical effects like Depth of Field, it is not a full blown remake. Still, it is a great way to experience the classic shooter, which supports local or online co-op with up to four players through the original single-player campaign, expansions and the two new add-ons developed by Machine Games, adding a few more levels into the mix.
The Quake remaster is already out on PC, Xbox, PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch for $9.99. However, on the PC and Xbox side, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can jump right in without buying the game outright.
In addition to Quake (2021), Xbox Game Pass has also been updated with Quake II and Quake III Arena, although both titles are PC-only for the time being.
KitGuru Says: Have any of you tried the Quake remaster already?
