Knights of the Old Republic Remake announced for PlayStation 5

Just as previously rumoured, Aspyr Media, the team behind the mobile ports of the Knights of the Old Republic games, are working on a complete remake. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) was revealed with a short teaser trailer this evening during the PlayStation Showcase.

The teaser is very short, simply showing a clip of Darth Revan igniting a red lightsaber before cutting away to the game's logo and a tagline that reads “a legend remade for PS5”.

While the word “exclusive” was not shown on screen, the tagline certainly makes this sound like the KOTOR Remake may only be available on PS5. In a PlayStation Blog post, Sony clarified that the remake will be a “console exclusive on PlayStation 5 at launch”, which means it could come to PC at the same time, but it will not be available on Xbox or another rival console. We don't know how long the timed exclusivity period will be, so it could be anywhere from a few months to a full year.

There is no release date yet either, but now that the project is out in the open, perhaps insiders will share some more details soon.

KitGuru Says: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is one of those games that will cause a lot of controversy if tied down to one platform. Fortunately, it sounds like the game will still be coming to PC and it will be available on Xbox eventually after a period of time. The game is in early development though, so it could be quite a while before we get any release date news.
