iPhone 13 specs and pricing revealed, Pro models finally get 120Hz display

Just as promised, last night Apple officially announced its new set of iPhones for the year. The iPhone 13 line-up consists of the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max, iterating on the iPhone 12 with improved internal specifications.

The next major iPhone redesign isn't coming until next year, as we previously reported. With that in mind, this year's iPhone 13 doesn't look different to last year's model aesthetically, although the front camera and Face ID notch does appear to be slightly smaller. The real changes are all under the hood, with the iPhone 13 jumping to the A15 Bionic SoC, promising a 50 percent faster CPU and a 30 percent faster GPU, while also offering higher efficiency thanks to TSMC's new 5nm process technology.

Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini use OLED displays, offering 1200 nits of peak brightness, as well as improved cameras, with a new 12MP main sensor and a wide-aperture f/2.4 lens to go with it.

The iPhone 13 starts at £779 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 13 Mini starts at £679 for the 128GB model.

The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max bring further display improvements. As rumoured, Apple has switched to LTPO OLED panels, allowing for a 120Hz variable refresh rate. This is something that the iPad Pro has had for a long time, but it is only now coming to iPhones for the first time. Leakers were also correct in revealing that the iPhone 13 Pro would be the first iPhone to offer up to 1TB of storage.

Unlike the standard models, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max feature three cameras on the back instead of two. This year, Pro iPhone buyers will get a 12MP 77mm telephoto lens, a 12MP wide lens and a second 12MP ultra-wide lens. The Pro models also get a larger battery, so expect the device to last a couple of hours longer than a standard iPhone on a single charge.

The iPhone 13 Pro starts at £949 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone Pro Max starts at £1,049. Pre-orders for all iPhone 13 models start on Friday the 17th of September.

KitGuru Says: Given the recent iPhone 14 leaks, I'd expect this year's model to be a little less popular, although Apple products will still fly off the shelves regardless. Are any of you thinking about upgrading to this year's iPhone?
