Today, Sony officially began rolling out a major PS5 firmware update to enable the additional M.2 SSD slot on the console. As long as the M.2 SSD meets the minimum requirements, it can be used to expand the console's storage. If you want to add some extra cooling for that shiny new SSD, then be quiet! has the answer.
The be quiet! MC1 M.2 SSD cooler is a passive heatsink that helps cool the memory modules on both sides of a standard-sized 2280 M.2 SSD. With this extra layer of protection, the SSD should have a longer lifespan, while also enabling peak performance speeds for longer periods of time.
Most importantly, however, is the fact that the MC1 is one of the few M.2 SSD coolers compact enough to perfectly fit within the expansion slot of the PS5. Just be sure to not pick up the MC1 Pro by mistake, as this cooler is slightly taller and won't fit within the PS5's M.2 slot.
The PS5 now supports PCIe Gen 4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSDs with a capacity between 250GB and 4TB. Any M.2 SSD that does not meet these requirements will not be recognised by the console.
