Nintendo 64 games come to Switch…for an added price

Ever since the announcement of the Nintendo Switch Online service, many fans have been disappointed at the service’s relative lack of systems supported, with only NES and SNES games being added since the console's launch in 2017. Nintendo 64 games have finally been announced for the service – though fans will have to pay extra for the privilage.

Announced at the recent Nintendo Direct, the console manufacturer revealed that Nintendo 64 games will be coming to the NSO service. That is not all however, as in a surprise announcement, it was revealed that SEGA’s Genesis / Mega Drive system would also be coming to the service. These two consoles however are being included as part of what is being called the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack – costing extra money.

Launching in October, the games coming from the N64 are:

  • Super Mario 64
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
  • Mario Kart 64
  • Star Fox 64
  • Sin and Punishment
  • Dr. Mario 64
  • Mario Tennis 64
  • WinBack
  • Yoshi’s Story

The SEGA Mega Drive games being added meanwhile will be:

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Streets of Rage 2
  • Ecco the Dolphin
  • Castlevania: Bloodlines
  • Contra: Hard Corps
  • Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Golden Axe
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • M.U.S.H.A.
  • Phantasy Star IV
  • Ristar
  • Shining Force
  • Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  • Strider

The console manufacturer has confirmed that as with the NES and SNES, more games will be added later on, including:

  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • Pokémon Snap
  • The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
  • Mario Golf
  • Paper Mario
  • F-Zero X

Though the Nintendo Switch Online service is relatively cheap, it has historically offered very little. While it is somewhat disappointing to see these games being added for an extra cost, it could be justified as long as said cost for these systems is minimal. No pricing has been announced yet, so we will have to wait and see.
