While Sony claimed that 2024 would be a relatively quiet year for the console manufacturer video game-wise, PlayStation appears to be topping the charts still, with the two-best selling games of the year so far in the UK being Helldivers II and The Last of Us Part II Remastered.
As reported by Christopher Dring of Gamesindustry.biz, the biggest selling ‘new’ releases for 2024 so far in the UK have been Helldivers II and The Last of Us Part II Remastered – marking a strong win for Sony and PlayStation in the region.
While it was clear that Helldivers would be near the top – as the game has sold over 12 million copies globally – Naughty Dog’s PS5 Remaster of The Last of Us Part II taking 2nd place does come as a bit of a surprise, especially as Sony themselves have yet to publish any official figures.
That said, The Last of Us Part II was massive on the PS4, and with a new audience of fans thanks to the success of the TV show, it perhaps should not have been so surprising to see it right near the top. It’ll be interesting to see how these rankings change by the end of the year.
