Latest Monster Hunter Wilds trailer showcases the new Hunting Horn weapon

Earlier this week, Capcom surprised Monster Hunter fans with new footage of the next-generation game, Monster Hunter Wilds. Releasing on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, fans can now check out how combat has been updated for the Hunting Horn weapon.

The previous three trailers focused on some of the new mechanics in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the new Focus Mode, which allows players to see the weak points on monsters in the heat of battle. Another trailer showcased other basic mechanics, which have not changed much from previous Monster Hunter games, so it should all look very familiar to veterans.

The final trailer from Capcom's spree earlier this week focused on the Great Sword weapon type, one of the signature weapons in the series. Now, a new trailer showcases new combat with the Hunting Horn:

The Hunting Horn is more of a blunt force weapon, so you'll be doing massive but slow weapon swings to bash monsters down. When hitting a monster's head with the blunt end of the weapon, the horn will let off a musical note and these notes can be strung together in combos to produce a little melody during battles. If this functions as well as I hope, it could essentially turn Monster Hunter into a rythm game.

There is no release date yet for Monster Hunter Wilds but it is due out in 2025, likely in the first half of the year. Unlike Monster Hunter Rise, Wilds is not coming to Nintendo Switch, but there is hope that perhaps the Switch 2 will be powerful enough to warrant a port of the game sometime after launch.
