Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition gets release date

Oddworld: Soulstorm is the latest entry in a long list of platformer titles which stretch all the way back to 1997. Originally released in April of this year, Oddworld: Soulstorm was announced to be getting an ‘Enhanced Edition’ featuring “dramatically improved gameplay mechanics and motion code, audio balance improvements” and much more – the release date of which we now know.

In a press release, the team at Oddworld Inhabitants (the developers of the Oddworld franchise) announced that Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition will be launching on the 30th of November for the Xbox Series X|S; Xbox One; PlayStation 4; PlayStation 5 and PC (via the Epic Games Store).

Originally revealed last month, Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition takes the latest entry in the long-running platformer franchise and adds “dramatically improved gameplay mechanics and motion code, audio balance improvements, seven additional months of polish, improved Slig and follower AI (more intelligent and responsive), as well as all previously released updates and brand-new content.”

While the original Soulstorm was already available on PlayStation systems and PC, this Enhanced Edition will be the first time that the game is coming to Xbox platforms – and with how many changes there are, it seems that Xbox players will be benefiting from the extended wait. Those who already own the game on PlayStation or PC will be able to ‘upgrade’ to the Enhanced Edition for free, meaning that everyone will now be able to experience the definitive edition of this game.

We have seen all manner of games re-released with new content and more. It is however interesting to see changes to core elements such as the AI and gameplay. Perhaps the closest comparison that can be made is to the Scholar of the First Sin edition of Dark Souls 2, which fundamentally changed the game. It will be interesting to see just how much better Oddworld: Soulstorm Enhanced Edition is – especially as the original release was mired by a mixed reception.
