WB officially announces Multiversus – its own Smash Bros. style crossover fighter

Over the last month, there have been a ton of leaks coming out of WB Games, mostly pointing towards a Smash Bros-style crossover fighter using Warner Bros. IP. Today, WB officially announced Multiversus, confirming the leaks and revealing official screenshots, the launch character roster and more.

Multiversus is a platform fighting game, much like Smash Bros. It will include 2v2, 1v1 and 4-player free-for-all matches, as well as a ranked competitive mode. The game will be heading to Xbox and PlayStation consoles as well as PC as a free to play game. At this point in time, there is no word on a Switch version.

The initial roster is comprised of 13 characters and interestingly, some of the characters seen in leaks do not appear here on the launch roster, indicating they may be saved for future updates. The launch roster includes;

  • Arya Stark
  • Batman
  • Bugs Bunny
  • Finn The Human
  • Garnet
  • Harley Quinn
  • Jake The Dog
  • Reindog
  • Shaggy
  • Steven Universe
  • Superman
  • Tom and Jerry
  • Wonder Woman

Earlier leaks hinted at other characters like Gandalf from Lord of the Rings and Rick from Rick and Morty. Neither of these characters appear on the launch roster and could well be the first DLC characters.

The game is due to release next year and will include cross-platform support, so console and PC players can go up against each other. Better yet, there is also cross-platform progression and solo play vs bots. Playtesting is due to begin soon, so if this is something you'd like to try, you can sign up for the upcoming beta.

KitGuru Says: These official screenshots do look better than the leaks in my opinion. Given the character possibilities and the free to play nature of this game, it could end up being pretty big, but we'll have to wait and see what the monetisation model ends up being like.
