Monoprice launches superwide and ultrawide Dark Matter gaming monitors

Dark Matter, Monoprice's gaming brand, is expanding its monitor portfolio with two new products: a 49-inch superwide display with 1800R curvature and a 34-inch ultrawide display with 1500R curvature.

Starting with the 49-inch monitor, it packs a VA panel with Quantum LCD technology, 4ms response time and 5120x1440p resolution, offering the same display area as two 27-inch monitors side by side. With a 32:9 aspect ratio, the panel boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and supports Adaptive Sync technology and VESA 75×75 monitor arms, which might come in handy as the included stand only allows tilting.

The monitor's panel has an 8-bit colour depth, a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a maximum brightness of 400nits, allowing it to cover 99% of the sRGB colour spectrum, as well as 98% of the NTSC, 95% of the DCI-P3 and 93% of the Adobe RGB colour gamuts. For connectivity, you get 2x DisplayPorts 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0 ports.

The Dark Matter ultrawide 42772 monitor also uses a smaller 34-inch VA panel with Quantum LCD technology. This one has a 4ms response time (1ms MPRT), 21:9 aspect ratio, 165Hz refresh rate and 3440×1440 resolution. It also supports Adaptive Sync technology and VESA 75×75 monitor arms. The included stand doesn't seem to offer any ergonomic capabilities.

Featuring an 8-bit colour depth, a contrast ratio of 3000:1 and a maximum brightness of 400nits, the Dark Matter 42772 should offer a similar colour coverage as the 43305, but the spec sheet doesn't list specifics. For connectivity, there are 2x DisplayPorts 1.4 and 2x HDMI 2.0 ports.

Both monitors are now available and backed by one-year pixel-perfect warranty. The Dark Matter 43305 is priced at $999.99, and the Dark Matter 42772 goes for $499.99, but for Black Friday, it is discounted to $400.99.
