A television adaptation of the popular open-world RPG game franchise Fallout was previously announced to be in development back in 2020. Since then, little to nothing has been heard regarding this project. Finally however, we have received an update on this show, re-confirming that it is in fact on its way.
In a recent Reddit AMA (ask me anything), Todd Howard, the executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios – and the director of Fallout 4, Skyrim and the upcoming Starfield – was asked by one Reddit user “Is the Amazon's Fallout TV Series still in the work? Is there any chance you can give us some details?”
In response, Howard re-confirmed that the TV show is indeed still in the works, announcing it to be “Moving ahead,” and claiming to be “really excited to be working with [producers] Jonah, Lisa, and Amazon on it.”
For the uninitiated, back in July of 2020, it was announced that Amazon Studios had licensed the rights to create a TV adaptation of the Fallout games. Kilter Films – known for the popular HBO show Westworld – was tasked with development of the Fallout adaptation.
Since then, however, little has been heard from the series, and with so many video game-based shows and films suffering from development hell, it is understandable to see some fans concerned about the status of the show. Fortunately, it seems as though all is well, and with Fallout 5 likely a decade away, the upcoming Fallout TV show will need to do much in order to satiate hungry fans. Hopefully it does not disappoint.
