The FTC has ‘expressed concerns’ over Nvidia’s Arm acquisition

It has been over a year since Nvidia first announced plans to acquire Arm in a $40 billion deal, but over the course of 2021, red flags have continued to be raised. Whether or not the deal should be allowed to go through is currently the subject of investigations around the world, including the UK, EU, China and now, the US has joined the list.

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has apparently also expressed some concerns over the proposed acquisition. As reported by ZDnet, Nvidia CFO, Colette Kress, revealed this during the company's Q3 earnings call last week, adding that a number of Arm licensees have also expressed concerns too.

This comes following investigations in China, the EU and the UK. In particular, the UK is looking into whether or not the deal should be blocked on “competition and national security grounds”, as Arm is a UK-based company. While Arm is headquartered in the UK, it is currently owned by Japanese firm, SoftBank, who agreed to sell the company to Nvidia last year.

Nvidia has previously promised to keep Arm's tech licensing business intact, but regulators still have concerns. The deal is still expected to close in the second half of 2022, barring any government intervention.
