PS5 firmware update adds Welcome Hub, 3D audio improvements and more

Since its release back in late 2020, Sony has introduced many new and improved features to the PS5 through various software updates. The latest is a pretty meaty one – introducing a whole new Welcome Hub alongside 3D audio improvements; adaptive charging and more.

Making the announcement on the PlayStation Blog, Hiromi Wakai – the VP of Product Management at SIE – said: “Today, we’re happy to announce a new PS5 system software update that introduces a number of new features.”

The most notable addition is the welcome hub – “a new personalized space with customizable widgets and backgrounds in your PS5 home screen”. Replacing the previous US-exclusive Explore Tab, the Welcome hub will be made available over the coming weeks for all PS5 owners globally.

Beyond this, the update also lets you now share party voice chat links on messaging and social media apps for easier ways to link up with friends.

Those who participate in PS5 betas will be familiar with the next few changes, but finally, all users who update their system will see a couple more neat additions:

  • Personalised 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds
  • Adjust Remote Play settings per user and choose who is allowed to connect to your PS5 console using Remote Play
  • Adaptive charging for your controllers (PS5 Slim / Pro)

Full details on how all these new additions will operate can be found HERE, but regardless, new features are always welcome.
