Ubisoft has been really struggling to land a hit over the past couple of years. While the success of XDefiant has helped with the publisher's early 2024 financials, the company still took big hits on games like Skull & Bones and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. Now, a recent gameplay preview for Star Wars Outlaws has financial analysts wondering if Ubisoft should delay the game.
The new gameplay preview for Star Wars Outlaws dropped on IGN this week, offering up ten minutes of gameplay footage, which looked rough. A good number of the top voted comments under the video call out the game's choppy frame rate and instances of poor graphical quality. Many also claim to be cancelling their pre-orders and browser extensions to estimate YouTube dislikes, which are known to be inaccurate, show a disproportionate like to dislike ratio.
Due to this reaction, a financial analyst for the Bank of America asked Ubisoft's CFO, Frederick Duguet, if the game would be delayed, to which he quickly pointed out that the game has “gone gold” and claims that more gameplay “of very high quality” will “really show the depths of the open world”. Ubisoft CEO, Yves Guillemot, also brushed off the suggestion of a delay, saying that the game has a “very high” level of quality and that “people will love it”.
Whether Ubisoft executives are being delusional or not remains to be seen. Star Wars Outlaws is supposed to drop on the 30th of August, which doesn't leave a lot of time for developers to fix up any lingering issues or address preview feedback.

KitGuru Says: I typically don't pick up Ubisoft games on day-one anymore. I'd much rather wait until there is a slow period in the game release calendar and then dive into one of their games on sale. However, those slow periods are becoming harder and harder to find in the current gaming landscape, with thousands of games releasing every year.
