MSI is launching a new 4K/144Hz gaming monitor

It seems 4K gaming monitors with a high refresh rate are the next big thing in the monitor market. MSI has also joined the ranks, announcing a new 28-inch Optix MAG gaming monitor with a 4K, 144Hz panel.

The Optix MAG281URF uses a Rapid IPS panel with 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms GTG response time, and 4K resolution. The panel has a 10-bit colour depth (8-bit + FRC), a rated contrast ratio of 1000:1 and a typical brightness of 300nits (400nits in HDR mode), allowing it to cover 95%/124% of the DCI-P3/sRGB colour gamut.

Like many MSI MAG monitors, it features a low blue light mode to reduce harmful light emissions, Night Vision to improve darker scenes, and Adaptive sync technology to reduce tearing while gaming. In addition, it's certified with DisplayHDR 400, producing images with greater detail and a wider range of colours.

In the back of the monitor, there's an MSI Mystic Light RGB strip you can customise via software. To connect to a source, you can use the DisplayPort 1.4a, one of the 2x HDMI 2.1 ports or the USB-C port with DP alternative mode. Moreover, there's an audio jack, 2x USB-A 2.0 and a USB-B 2.0 and KVM 2.0 switch to connect other devices. The monitor also supports console mode, so you can get 4K/120FPS on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles.

Sharing the same aesthetics as the Optix MAG281URV, it also comes with the same stand, which allows the user to tilt, swivel, pivot, and adjust the height. It also uses the same VESA 100x100mm standard, which you can use to mount a monitor arm to improve ergonomics further.

KitGuru says: This monitor ticks all the right boxes for high-end PC gaming, it will be interesting to see reviews and pricing when the time comes.
