Back when the PS5 was first revealed, fans immediately saw potential for custom panels, which would allow users to customise their console with custom graphics or colours. Some companies attempted to serve this market, but were swiftly shut down by Sony's legal team. Now, Sony will begin selling official PS5 console covers, starting in 2022.
The first batch of PS5 console covers is known as the ‘Galaxy Collection', giving owners the option of blue, purple, red, pink and black replacement covers. Additionally, Sony will be releasing a set of DualSense controllers with the same colour options:
You can see all of the colour options, and the new DualSense controllers, in the gallery above. First, Midnight Black and Cosmic Red will begin shipping in January 2022, followed by ‘Nova Pink', ‘Galactic Purple' and ‘Starlight Blue' in the first half of next year.
These will be sold via PlayStation Direct, Sony's direct-to-consumer retail service, available in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Korea and the Philippines. Additional territories will be added throughout next year.
In terms of pricing, we only have the US price at the moment, which puts a set of PS5 console covers at $55. We do not know if these new colourways for DualSense controllers will cost more, but the standard price of the controller is $69.99.
KitGuru Says: Hopefully at some point we'll see limited edition covers with custom graphics based on various big games, in addition to a wider array of colour options. What do you all think of Sony's first set of PS5 console covers? Will you be getting a set?
