Alienware’s latest gaming monitor sports an OLED panel and 175Hz refresh rate

We've been waiting for OLED panels to become more common amongst gaming monitors and it seems that monitor makers are finally starting to adopt the technology. This week at CES, Alienware unveiled its latest high-end gaming display, sporting a QD-OLED ultra-wide panel with 175Hz refresh rate.

The Alienware AW3423DW's QD-OLED panel measures 34-inch diagonally and has 3440×1440 resolution, 175Hz refresh rate, 0.1ms response time and 1800R curvature. As the name implies, this panel uses Samsung's Quantum Dot technology to enhance colours. The display has a 10-bit colour depth, 250nits of typical brightness, peaking at 1000nits, and a 1M:1 contrast ratio. These specifications allow it to cover 99.3% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut and 149% of the sRGB colour space.

Besides the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification, it supports Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate for tear-free gaming at higher refresh rates. Preset colour modes include Creator, FPS, MOBA/RTS, RPG, Sports and 3x additional customisable modes.

This monitor has four zones with AlienFX RGB lighting, including the back, downlight, power button and the back loop, but only the latter features additional animations. Connectivity options are rather extensive, sporting 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, a DP 1.4, 4x downstream and an upstream SuperSpeed USB 3.2 Gen1 port, an audio-out 3.5mm jack and a headphone-out 3.5mm jack.

The stand has a cable management system to reduce clutter. In addition, it has tilt, swivel, slant, and height adjustment capabilities. If you prefer to use a monitor arm, then it supports VESA 100x100mm mounts with the included adapter.

Pricing is still unknown, but Alienware claims the monitor will be available starting in late March in the US. We expect the UK and European markets will get stock later in the year.

KitGuru says: OLED gaming monitors have been few and far between, so it will be interesting to see this Alienware display up close and compare it to other gaming monitors. What do you all think of the latest from Alienware? Is this something you would consider for your desk?
