Sony reveals new PlayStation Productions animation

PlayStation Productions represents Sony's latest effort with regards to turning the console manufacturer’s many successful video game IPs into other forms of media such as TV shows and film. With the long-in-development Uncharted film now out, we can see the company’s brand new studio logo opening animation.

Revealing the animation on Twitter, PlayStation said “Is that a new PlayStation Productions animation? See it on the big screen before the @UnchartedMovie action begins!”

The animation is mostly slick and evokes the correct feelings of a premiere experience with the right amount of anticipation. It is of course worth noting the first-party PlayStation characters and iconography featured in the opening, the chronology of which was a follows:

  1. Aloy (and her focus earpiece)
  2. Leviathan Axe
  3. Nathan Drake
  4. Jin Sakai
  5. Ellie and Joel
  6. Kratos and Atreus
  7. Astro Bot
  8. Aloy (again)
  9. Ratchet & Clank
  10. Sackboy
  11. Kratos (again)
  12. Everyone together

As is the case with the logo for PlayStation Studios’ games, it will be interesting to see if each film or TV show is accompanied by a slightly different opening of the PlayStation Productions animation, tailored to what is about to be shown.

One show we won’t be seeing it on soon however is HBO’s The Last of Us, which will not be out until 2023 at the earliest. Still, PlayStation Productions has many projects in the works, and so it will be interesting to see whether this new pillar will ever stand side by side with Sony’s other film divisions.

KitGuru says: What do you think of the animation? How does it compare to the PlayStation Studios one? Would you like to see a film/show from all of the characters featured? Let us know down below.
