In recent months, we've seen a lot of leaks regarding a new Splinter Cell game. For the most part, reports pointed to this being a brand new game in the franchise, possibly taking it in an open world direction. As it turns out, this won't be a sequel, as Ubisoft announced Splinter Cell Remake today.
Ubisoft has greenlit the development of a Splinter Cell remake, with development being led by the publisher's Toronto studio. The game will be “rebuilt from the ground up” using the Snowdrop engine to “deliver new-generation visuals and gameplay, and the dynamic lighting and shadows the series is known for”.
To mark the announcement, Ubisoft published a video with developers talking a little bit about the history of Splinter Cell and the elements they'll be looking to recapture with this remake.
This isn't the only remake that Ubisoft is working on either. The publisher also announced last year that it would be bringing back The Prince of Persia, starting with a remake of The Sands of Time, which is due to release next year.

KitGuru Says: After years of fan requests, fake leaks and more recently, some real leaks, Ubisoft is finally bringing Splinter Cell back. From the sounds of it, the decision to develop a remake was only made recently, so it will be a few years before this is ready to be played.
