This week, GSC Game World announced plans to sell NFTs for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl, which immediately garnered some backlash from the gaming community. Now just two days later, the developers have reversed those plans and will no longer be going through with support for NFTs.
The change in plan was swift, but it wasn't immediate. At first, GSC Game World offered an updated statement defending the decision, and also explaining that it had plans to offer other NFTs for assets found throughout the open world, allowing the NFT owner to add nicknames to things like walls, desks, gloves, tattoos, collectible cards and other items.

That statement was deleted several hours later, at which point GSC Game World confirmed that they have “made a decision to cancel anything NFT-related in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2”. The studio went on to say that “the interests of our fans and players are the top priority for the team”.
And with that all settled, there will be no more ‘metahuman' NFT sale, or future NFTs sold for Stalker 2. Currently, the game is expected to release in April 2022 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also be available day-one through Xbox Game Pass.
KitGuru Says: If we take a look back at the pushback Ubisoft received for its NFT platform, it would have been easy to predict how this situation would go down. It is just a shame that GSC Game World didn't take that into consideration before going down this route.
