Samsung begins sampling GDDR6 memory clocked at 20Gbps and 24Gbps

Most recent graphics cards with GDDR6 memory have their VRAM clocked at 16Gbps, with a few rarer models with 18Gbps memory. Soon, we should start seeing even faster GDDR6 memory shipping on GPUs, as Samsung has begun producing new models with 20Gbps and 24Gbps speeds. 

The news was first shared by @Olrak29, who found the Samsung product catalogue page for the company's new GDDR6 modules running at 24Gbps. Here, you can see they are being sampled to partners, a list that should include companies like Nvidia and AMD. In that same table, we can also see Samsung sampling the K4ZAF325BC-SC20 modules, which come in 2GB modules clocked at 20Gbps.

Both modules come in the same “180FGBA” package as other Samsung modules currently used by AMD for RDNA 2 graphics. Presumably, handy modders could replace the current modules with the newer ones and possibly increase their graphics card performance. However, the memory bus would still be limited to 256-bit, perhaps causing a bottleneck in the memory.

Although these modules are already being sampled, it's still unclear when we'll start seeing them included with actual retail products.
