SIFU was one of the more interesting video games to have been announced at the PlayStation State of Play stream back in February. That being said, as it is an indie title, the game was originally only going to see a digital release. Fortunately, the studio has now confirmed that they will be releasing SIFU to retail next year.
Previously, SIFU was intended to be a digital-only release, launching on the 8th of February 2022 for PlayStation 4|5 and PC. Taking to YouTube to make the announcement however, video game publisher Microids revealed that they are working with SIFU devs Sloclap to give the game a physical release – though those wishing to buy it will have to wait until after the digital release.
Though there is no official release date, the physical version of SIFU is currently set to release some time during Spring 2022 – closely aligned with the digital release date.
As both a publisher and developer, Microids have released a long list of games – many of which you will not have heard of. Perhaps the studio’s biggest games are those under the Siberia franchise.
Of course, with Microids handling the physical launch of the game, and developers Sloclap seemingly having full creative control over the game itself, this partnership between two smaller studios will likely prove to be prosperous for both parties. While it is unfortunate that a day-and-date digital and physical release could not be organised, the fact that SIFU is seeing a physical release at all is exciting – especially as it appears not to be a limited run situation.
