Upcoming Intel Core i9-12900KS benchmarked

Intel announced the Core i9-12900KS back at CES 2022, but we have yet to learn when the chip will launch. While it hasn't been released yet, samples are beginning to do the rounds and as a result, we're seeing benchmark results starting to pop up, giving us an early look at the pre-binned CPU.

Prominent leaker HXL shared a Cinebench R23 multi-core score from a Taobao listing (29,999RMB=£3,519). This score was achieved by running the Core i9-12900KS overclocked to 5.4GHz. In addition, the system was equipped with DDR5 memory clocked at 7400MHz installed on an MSI Z690 Unify-X motherboard.

Unfortunately, single-core performance wasn't tested, but in the multi-core test, it scored 29,519 points. That's about the same as a standard i9-12900K chip overclocked at 5.4GHz. However, an i9-12900KS should always have more overclocking potential, which might be enough reason for some customers to choose it over the K variant.

Like the K variant, the i9-12900KS is a 16C/24T processor with 14+30MB of cache and an HD770 iGPU. Thanks to Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost, this chip can achieve an all-core frequency (P-cores) of 5.2GHz and a single-core frequency of 5.5GHz (both stock). Power limits, pricing, and availability are still unknown.

KitGuru says: Assuming the Core i9-12900KS will be slightly more expensive than the i9-12900K, will it be worth choosing the former over the latter?
