Nvidia's upcomingGeForce Game Ready driver sure sounds promising. The new graphics driver will bring DLSS and Reflex support for God of War PC and Rainbow Six Extraction, optimisations and enhancements for Grit, The Anacrusis and Hitman III Year 2, while also adding more G-Sync compatible monitors. The real highlights, however, are the advanced Freestyle filters and new DLDSR upscaling technology.
Working with Pascal Gilcher, the popular ReShade filter creator, Nvidia will be releasing depth-based Freestyle filters. First, we have SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion) used to highlight shadows near intersections of 3D objects. Then, Dynamic DOF (Depth of Field) applies a bokeh-style blur depending on how distant the objects are. Lastly, SSRTGI (Screen Space Ray Traced Global Illumination), aka Ray Tracing ReShade Filter, simulates raytracing by improving lighting and shadows to create a sense of depth and realism.
DLDSR (Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution) uses the same idea behind DSR, but leverages AI to further improve its results. Following the same principle as DSR, it renders an image at a higher resolution and reduces it to the monitor's native resolution to enhance its quality. However, thanks to the use of AI, it requires fewer input pixels for that purpose. Using DLDSR at a 2.25x factor, results are on the same level as using DSR at a 4x factor, but performance is significantly better.
DLDSR only works RTX GPUs, as it uses Tensor cores. To enable DLDSR, you'll need the upcoming graphics driver. Once you've it installed, go to Nvidia Control panel, “Manage 3D Settings”, and look for “DSR Factors”. Open the drop-down list and select one of the DL scaling options.
Lastly, there are also some new entries to the G-Sync compatible display list, these are the latest additions:
- AOC AG275QG3R4B+
- AOC Q32G3WG3
- AOC AG275QXE
- Dell G2723HN
- HP Omen 27i IPS
- MSI MPG321UR-QD
- Philips 24M1N3200ZA
- ViewSonic VX3220-4K-Pro
The new GeForce Game Ready graphics driver will become available on January 14th.
